Some bidders who didn't pay

Artisans of the Imagination

Not your typical (!?) Carcosa Contest… this competition is not of words this time.  It is about bringing into physical reality something from the realms of fiction.

1) Consider a fictional item from a favourite tale (fantasy, horror, science fiction etc.) that you wish you could have in your collection.  Perhaps it is the Dream Machine from the film Inception… perhaps it is a mechanical hound from Fahrenheit 451… perhaps Dave’s helmet from 2001: A Space Odyssey… maybe its Andre Linoge’s wolf-dog walking stick…  maybe it's a golem…

2) Consider what object could be great to use as part of a performance.  Don’t worry if you don’t have an act or routine for it… but maybe you think – say, wouldn’t it be cool to use Dr. Strange’s Eye of Agamotto in something or other????

3) Now make it!  You can’t get a props master to do it for you… that would be cheating!  Go out and figure out through various odds and ends and arts and crafts supplies a way to make the thing into physical reality!  It doesn’t have to truly function… like, how are you really going to build a mechanical hound with a 4” needle syringe full of procaine to sniff out people?  It must be a OOAK... something you would actually use or at least proudly display in your collection of oddities!

Once it is done, please submit the following:

  • Name of Item
  • What fictional world it came from
  • What does it "do"
  • How can it be used for a mystery arts performance
  • Materials and costs and the build process
  • Pictures of the item
  • Other comments.

Then all entries will be put on Virtual Display in the COURT until the Day of Judgment.

The Judging consists of our local Carcosian Scholars and this time votes from Out There via a Poll System.

The Haunter will give 1-3 points on Originality

The Wub will give 1-3 points on Faithfulness to the Inspiration

Charon will give 1-3 points for Practicality

Nitocris will give 1-3 points on Coolness/Appearance Factor

POLL: Object with the most points via POLL gets 5 points, second place 3 points, 3rd place 1 point.

EARLY BATS: First 3 people to send in completed entries will receive 1 bonus point.

TIE BREAKER: The Crystal Mind of Azoth... AKA Arnie, will compute the final decision if needed.

Handcrafted King in Yellow book #10/13 + Mirror of Dark Souls #3/4, and Access to the Restricted Vault for 24 hours.

There may be other awards for various entries based on the whims of the judges... you never know in the realm of Carcosa!  We are sure the Wub is planning another dinner... Nitocris may have some old movies to share... Charon... well... and you likely do not want to come have a private reading with the Haunter but who knows...

Deadline to submit:  July 30 2013

As objects/items are submitted, they will be put on display in the Court.

July 30th-August 15th 2013 Voting Open at Nitocris’s palace.

August 20th 2013 Winner Announced

Please see current project in Atelier, the VKM mark II machine. Aka the Voigt Kampff machine from "Do Androids Dream of Electronic Sheep?" modified to be also a "memory/thought implantation" device from "We can remember for you Wholesale".... portable. Based somewhat on the film Blade Runner and Total Recall but also following the artist’s own vision.  Note that this Artisan is a Carcosan and thus is not eligible to be in the contest!

The Book

Thought of the Eon

There is a concept that is the corrupter and destroyer of all others. I speak not of Evil, whose limited empire is that of ethics; I speak of the infinite.

-Jorge Luis Borges
